Amazfit brings lactate threshold to Balance 2 with new system update
The Amazfit Balance 2 is receiving a new system update, version 3.43.0.3, adding lactate threshold tracking alongside training plan adjustments and sleep improvements. The update package comes in at 16.57MB and introduces one of the more advanced running metrics to the device.
This marks only the second Amazfit watch to support lactate threshold, following the Amazfit Active 3 Premium, which got the feature at launch a few weeks ago.
Lactate threshold arrives on Balance 2
As described in our earlier piece, the new metric can be found in the running settings under training. It includes both passive lactate threshold tracking and a dedicated test mode.
Lactate threshold gives runners a clearer view of how hard they can push before fatigue starts to build rapidly. It combines heart rate and pace to define a sustainable upper effort level. That makes it useful for pacing longer efforts and guiding interval sessions.
This kind of metric has been creeping into more wearables, but it is still not standard at this level. By bringing it to Balance 2, Zepp Health is nudging the device further into performance territory, not just general fitness tracking. Presumably, other Amazfit watches will get the metric as well.
Better control over training plans and more
The update also tweaks Zepp Coach in a practical way. Users can now adjust running plans mid week, including skipping the current day or modifying upcoming sessions. Training rarely goes exactly as scheduled, so having the option to adapt without restarting a plan makes a difference.
Zepp Health has also touched sleep tracking, with improvements to the algorithm aimed at better accuracy in certain scenarios. There are no details on exactly what has changed, but these updates tend to focus on edge cases such as fragmented sleep or shorter rest periods.
Elsewhere, iInterval workout screens now show segment counts more clearly. Golf course downloads have been adjusted, and there are fixes for reminder settings in diving activities. General system stability has also been improved.
This update does not overhaul the Balance 2, but it adds another layer to what the watch can do. Lactate threshold is not a good metric to follow, and its inclusion signals a further narrowing between what Garmin and Amazfit watches can do.
