WHOOP may finally let users follow friends without creating Teams

WHOOP appears to be testing a friends feature that would let users add individual members through search or a shared invite link. A Reddit user briefly saw the new screen inside the app before it disappeared, while another user said the add function showed an employee only message.

The screenshot shows a “Search Members” page with a search field, profile results and “Add” buttons next to each user. It points to a direct follow system rather than another version of Teams, which is the useful bit here.

This looks like an internal test

The feature does not appear to be live yet. The screenshot shows a “Failed to load. Please try again.” message at the bottom, and the Reddit thread suggests the page vanished soon after appearing.

The strongest clue is the employee only message. One commenter said they tried to add friends and the app told them the feature was only available to employees. That makes this look like a server side test exposed to some regular users by mistake.

That would also explain why WHOOP has not announced anything. The screen looks real, but the broken flow suggests the public rollout is not ready.

It fixes a clunky Teams workaround

WHOOP currently relies on Teams for most social comparisons. That works for larger groups, clubs and communities, but it is awkward when two people simply want to follow each other’s recovery, strain or sleep.

This makes little sense. If you just want to follow a friend, you need to create a Team just to see each other’s stats.

That is where this feature fits. It gives WHOOP users a simpler social layer, without forcing every small connection into a group format.

The layout may be the weak spot

The early UI might still need work. According to the Reddit post, Friends appeared above Teams, pushing the Teams section lower and removing the quick daily ranking view from the main screen.

That could annoy existing users. Team rankings are one of the main reasons people open that section, so hiding them behind another tap would make the app worse for people who already use it daily.

The cleaner option would be to separate Friends and Teams properly. Friends can handle individual follows. Teams can keep group rankings and community comparison.

WHOOP has not announced it yet

WHOOP has not confirmed the feature, so this remains an early sighting rather than an official launch. Still, the dedicated search page, add buttons and shared link mention suggest this is more than a random app glitch.

The idea is straightforward. WHOOP looks to be preparing a way to follow individual users without creating a Team. If the final version keeps the interface clean, it could fix one of the more awkward parts of WHOOP’s social setup.
