Huawei Watch 6 breaks cover ahead of September launch

Huawei has started teasing the Watch 6 ahead of a September 2 launch event in Munich, giving us our first official look at the new timepiece. The design is not a huge departure from Watch 5, but Huawei is clearly making the slimmer case one of the main talking points.

The teaser comes in a short YouTube video titled “HUAWEI WATCH 6 – Slim in Style”. There are no detailed specs yet, but the video gives us several clear shots of the watch from the front and side.

Watch 6 looks familiar

Anyone expecting Huawei to completely rethink its flagship watch won’t find that here. Watch 6 sticks with the round display and the same general shape as Huawei Watch 5, including the crown and secondary control on the right-hand side.

What does look different is the case itself. It seems thinner and a little less bulky around the edges, particularly where the body meets the strap, although we’ll need the official dimensions before judging how much has actually changed.

Huawei is certainly leaning into that part of the design. Calling the teaser “Slim in Style” makes it pretty obvious that reducing the size, or at least making Watch 6 look slimmer on the wrist, will be part of the pitch.

The video shows a silver model paired with a pale blue strap, along with glimpses of darker and gold versions. Huawei also gives us some fairly close shots of the case, which suggest it is sticking with the polished, curved look of Watch 5 rather than moving towards something more rugged.

The side-mounted sensor introduced with Watch 5 also appears to be staying. Huawei calls this X-Tap, and on the current watch it combines ECG, PPG and pressure sensing so you can place a fingertip against the side of the case for a quick set of health readings.

Huawei hasn’t said whether X-Tap itself has changed for Watch 6. That is one of the things worth watching at the launch, because a new generation of the sensor would give the watch a more substantial upgrade than simply making the case thinner.

There is no shortage of hardware for Huawei to build on. Watch 5 arrived last year with a bright AMOLED display, improved battery life and the new X-Tap system, so Huawei doesn’t really need to start again with Watch 6. What we don’t know yet is whether there are any major additions underneath, this time around.

Huawei is getting in just before IFA

The timing is interesting too. Huawei will unveil Watch 6 in Munich on September 2, just two days before IFA 2026 gets underway in Berlin.

I mentioned Huawei in my IFA 2026 wearable tech preview because the company isn’t currently listed as an exhibitor at the show. The Munich launch now makes a bit more sense, with Huawei effectively taking its own slot immediately before IFA rather than trying to squeeze the announcement into a packed few days in Berlin.

That should also give Watch 6 a bit more breathing room. IFA runs from September 4 to September 8, and there are already plenty of wearable companies lined up for the show, so launching two days earlier means Huawei gets the attention without having to compete with everything happening on the show floor.
