Nokia’s sleep tracking pad gets official launch

Nokia has added to its rich portfolio of health and fitness gadgets a sleep tracking pad. The Wi-Fi enabled gadget nestles quietly under your mattress to help you catch more ZZZs.

“We believe that each night’s sleep is another opportunity for users to better their well being,” said Gregory Lee, president of Nokia Technologies.

“Nokia Sleep gives users valuable insights into their sleep habits and arms them with the knowledge they need to improve their overall health.”

Announced at CES 2018 earlier this year, the Finnish company’s sleep mattress pad is designed to be positioned on the side of the bed, at chest level. There is nothing to wear or do. Simply slip the gizmo under your covers and plug it in. In the morning, the gadget will provide you detailed info on sleep cycles (deep, light and REM) and heart rate. It even detects snoring.

The accompanying smartphone app also dishes out a Sleep Score, a single figure letting you know how restful your sleep really was. Then there is something called the Sleep Smarter Programme. This offers guidance to help you create a more balanced sleep schedule.

For the geeks amongst us, the sleep pad comes with IFTTT integration for automation of certain activities such as dimming lights when you go to bed, or turning the radio or thermostat on and off. Your voice can also help you manage your health with an Alexa Skill that works with Nokia Health Mate.
