Monitor your heart via a simple colour coded system with Braun’s smart blood pressure monitors

Consumer products company Braun has released two new smart blood pressure monitors – the iCheck 7 and the ActivScan 9. Both devices enable you to monitor your heart health through a simple colour coded system. The iCheck 7 can be worn on the wrist and the ActivScan 9 is a more traditional blood pressure monitor.

For the launch, the German-based company published a survey of 1,000 adults in the UK which looks at perceptions of blood pressure. This shows that despite heart health being the number one measure of overall wellbeing, it seems we are much more likely to track our daily step count.

In fact, almost half of us monitor weight and daily steps with at-home technology, yet only 15% of us keep a regular check on our blood pressure. Some 7% never get it checked at all! Most adults (63%) only get a reading during routine GP appointments. Even more worryingly, almost two thirds don’t consider themselves to have a healthy lifestyle.

Around 70% of those surveyed quite rightly believe stress and being overweight are amongst the main causes of hypertension. Other findings show that the risk of stroke or a heart attack are the biggest fears for someone diagnosed with high blood pressure.

“Hypertension, or high blood pressure, can affect everyone,” said Dr. Achim Max Brenske, physician and medical expert.

“It doesn’t really show itself with symptoms, but if left untreated can increase the risk of serious health problems such as heart attacks and strokes. There are many health measures that we are already consistently tracking, yet blood pressure is a metric that is often not thought about but could be one of the most important.”

Simple changes and health tweaks can really can make a big difference when it comes to high blood pressure. Braun’s new blood pressure monitors can help you to make these positive changes.

ActivScan 9 is an upper arm blood pressure monitor. It features Braun’s custom-made pinch-to-open cuff and comfortable soft inflation technology.

The device measures and stores your readings, and you can access all of this on the full color display. This is controlled by an easy navigation wheel and soft touch buttons. Everything is color-coded from green to red, so at a glance you can understand how well you are doing. The screen shows a reading history view, calendar view and 7, 14 and 30 day averages.

ActivScan 9 also connects via Bluetooth to Braun’s Health Heart app. This creates an evolving snapshot of your blood pressure and allows you to enter lifestyle data to create a complete picture of your health.

The device measures 22.2 x 16.9 x 11.4 (H x L x W, in cm) and weights 1.235 kg. It stores measurements for up to two people and also comes with irregular heart beat detection.

iCheck 7 is a more compact blood pressure monitor that works from your wrist. Its easy to put on and the smart ‘ball in the hole’ positioning system helps guide you to the correct posture for taking an accurate reading. Correct positioning is important as wrist arteries are narrower and not as deep under your skin as those of the forearm.

You can then see your heart health at a glance, again thanks to clear colour-coded results. For more detailed stats and an overview of historical readings, you will need to head over to the Braun Healthy Heart app.

The gizmo is meant for one user and just like ActivScan 9 it keeps an eye out for irregular heart beats. The lightweight device (0.414 kg) is small in size (13.1 x 13.0 x 11.4 – H x L x W, in cm) making it ideal for checking blood pressure on the go.
