Following a number of leaks Huawei was expected to make the announcement, but it came a week earlier than anticipated. The wearable is official as of today and is now listed on the company’s website in China.
The original concept appears on Huawei’s TalkBand B1 back in 2014. This wasn’t your typical wearable. Rather it was a strange contraption with a Bluetooth headset that fits neatly inside a fitness band. The idea is that you want something that will make it easy to make telephone calls with whilst you’re on the move.
Talkband B5 comes with a 1.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 2.5D curved glass and 300 × 160 pixels resolution. The display is detachable from the band itself using the simple quick release button. This is the part of the wearable that transforms into a single-ear Bluetooth accessory.
The Bluetooth headset has a trip-core audio chip with high-definition voice and a dual microphone with noise reduction. There is also support for caller ID, a call mute function and more.
In terms of fitness tracking, the gizmo goes a bit beyond the basics this time around. There is a built-in heart rate sensor that keeps tabs on your ticker 24/7 and looks at your heart rate variability. This information is used to determine how stressed you are and there are breathing exercises too keep you calm. Its TruSleep function provides advanced sleep tracking and offers personal recommendations.
Huawei’s latest fitness tracker comes with 512 KB RAM and 16 MB Flash for native apps. The 108 mAh battery keeps everything going up to three days on a single charge. The device also comes with an IP67 water-resistance rating, which means it will endure sweat, rain and the occasional water splash.
The Huawei Talkband B5 currently available for pre-order in China for shipping on July 20th. It comes in five colour options and three different strap types. The product is currently listed on Vmall with a CNY 59 price tag. That’s only about $9.
