Fossil has no shortage of smartwatches on offer but the one thing its been lacking up to now is a device with the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip. Qualcomm has introduced the processor only in September. It brings new low-power modes, sports watch-focused tweaks and improved always-on watch faces.

Fossil Sport comes in a cheerful, bright design and a choice between six different colorways (silver, rose gold, blue, red, grey and gold). Its nylon and aluminium casing has three physical buttons on the right. All this can be paired with straps in 28 different variants allowing you to customize the watch to your liking. The material is very lightweight and Fossil says this is its lightest smartwatch yet.

The Wear OS device has a full touchscreen and two different sizes to choose from. One measures 41mm in diameter, the other 43mm. Presumably the smaller one is meant for the female fitness enthusiast. Both feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 390 ppi resolution.

Under the hood you’ll find the usual gamut of fitness tracking sensors including a heart rate monitor. There’s also built-in GPS for phone free exercising and NFC for contactless payments. This is the same Fossil Generation 4 technology we’ve seen in a number of devices in recent months.

According to Fossil, the watch can go a full day between charges which is not actually that impressive. Especially considering it sports the new chip which is said to extend battery life. Thankfully, the watch comes with rapid charging technology, which means you can fully top-up the battery in just an hour.

To get more life out of the 350mAh battery, you can switch to battery saver mode. This will keep the watch ticking along for an additional two days. Fossil says the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip will continue to bring battery optimization as the software evolves.

Finally, the watch is water resistant down to 50 meters depth. It also comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal memory which can be used for offline storage of music.

Fossil Sport is compatible with iPhones operating on iOS 9 and above, as well as Android phones on OS version 4.4 and above. You can pre-order on Fossil’s website from today, with delivery starting on November 12th. The watch retails for $255.
