Information on the budget fitness band has been coming through thick and fast in recent weeks. This latest leak comes courtesy of CNMO. Along with a couple of images, the leak confirms Mi Band 4 will come with a color display. We’ve also learned it will sport Bluetooth 5.0 for improved connectivity. Mi Band 3 uses Bluetooth 4.2.
A few weeks ago the tracker received the nod of approval from the NCC in Taiwan. The certification documents provided us with the first pics of the band, but it’s fair to say these were not of the best quality.
At the start of this month, GizChina.it, posted some images that come from an analysis of the Mi Fit app. This is when we learned of the full color display. Huami increased the screen size to 0.78 inches with Mi Band 3, and it is rumored generation 4 will come with a 1 inch color screen. Unfortunately, there’s no way to determine by looking at the pictures if this really will be the case.
It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi has managed to preserve the stonking 20 day battery life. A full color screen makes a device more power-hungry. The CNMO reveals says the tracker will sport a 135 mAh battery instead of the 110 mAh battery of its predecessor. No doubt, the extra juice will be needed to retain the excellent battery life amidst other improvements.
Other than that, the device comes across very much like its predecessor. The main module looks pretty much unchanged in shape and slips out of the band when it’s time to refuel.
We know there will be two iterations of the wearable, one with an NFC chip for contactless payments the other one without. Furthermore, there will be support for voice commands. Whether this will be available only for China remains to be seen. Mi Band 4 will also come with controls for music.
As always, take any leaks with a grain or salt. These latest images are very much in line with information uncovered so far which leads us to believe they probably are genuine.
Hopefully it won’t be long before we find out. The fitness band is due to launch sometime this year. There is talk we may see the tracker in June, but this is unconfirmed.
