A promotional image released by Huami provides details on the new wearable. It’s no secret Amazfit Verge Lite was in the works, but now the Chinese outfit has decided to make the model official. The name of the device actually translates to Amazfit smartwatch Youth Edition but considering the specs this is the Amazfit Verge Lite.
Here’s the poster.
Judging by the leaked images of the June 3rd device, it looks like there will also be a Verge Lite collectors edition based on the Avengers movie. This has Marvel watch faces and an Avengers logo on the strap.
Here’s the packaging.
Launched late last year, Amazfit Verge comes with the usual fitness tracking smarts, a heart rate monitor capable of identifying health issues, NFC support and built-in GPS/GLONASS. The device is a less pricey version of the company’s popular Amazfit Stratos sports watch.
In our review we found that it’s more suitable for both sexes due to its smaller size, it has a better screen and a number of improvements under the hood. But it does’t feel as elegant as Stratos and sacrifices some functionality. Nevertheless, the watch has been selling well and has received great reviews.
But now, we are getting an even more budget friendly version.
The design is pretty much the same. The Lite edition comes in a circular, 43mm diameter casing. Once again, the device has a 1.3 inch AMOLED display with a 360 x 360 pixel resolution as well as Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The screen is off by default by springs to life when you lift your wrist or press the single physical button on the right. There’s coating on top which prevents fingerprint smudges.
The 390 mAh battery should keep the thing going for up to 20 days with basic use and 40 hours with GPS switched on. This is actually more than the regular version.
The IP68 certified device supports 11 different types of sports including Golfing, Riding, Running, hiking, Gym training, Soccer and Boat riding. Under the hood it has an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor and PPG sensor capable of monitoring cardiac health. There’s also GPS/GLONASS support, Bluetooth 4.2 BLE connectivity and AliPay offline payment function for contactless payments.
As far as we can tell, there’s no atmospheric pressure sensor. There’s also no mention of a mic and speaker for XiaoAI or ALEXA voice assistant support. These features can be found on the original device.
Amazfit Verge Lite has only been announced for the Chinese market so far. It is on pre-sale for around $70 (499 yuan) in a choice between Cool Shark Black and Snow Mountain White colors. Even with the inevitable price increase once it makes it across the border, this will be one of the most cost friendly options for those looking for a sports watch.
