The first clue we would be getting a new timepiece came at the start of this month. Honor had unveiled a Halloween-themed teaser of Honor Watch 2 on its social channels. Other leaks and rumors came soon after. Now all is official as the watch has been unveiled along with the Honor V30 range of smartphones.
The original device made its China debut about year ago. Its Europe launch followed a few months after. The timepiece took much from Huawei’s Watch GT, but was smaller, simpler and less expensive.
The second generation device takes the same approach. It’s similar in looks to the original as both share a circular face and two physical buttons on the right. It also borrows a lot from Huawei Watch GT 2.
Magic Watch 2 is made of 361L stainless steel and comes in two size options. The 46mm features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display (454 x 454 pixel resolution) and weighs 41 grams. This one has a sporty chronograph look.
The 42MM has a smaller 1.2-inch AMOLED (390 x 390 pixel resolution) display and comes in at a mere 29 grams. The iteration for smaller wrists has a more simplistic design with the Peach Gold version clearly aimed at women.
Both size options come with 5 ATM waterproofing, built-in GPS and a bunch of sensors that monitor your activity, heart rate and stress. Plus there are 15 exercise modes (including swimming), and a virtual pace-setter for runners.
The watch uses the same LiteOS software Huawei uses for Watch GT 2. Which means excellent battery life, once again. The larger iteration delivers up to 14 days of use with everything enabled, and the 42mm version about a half of this. Powering everything is the Kirin A1 processor, and there’s 2GB of space for you to use too.
The watches are priced attractively. The 46mm version starts at $170 (1,199 yuan) in Charcoal Black or Flax Brown options, with interchangeable straps. The 42mm at around $155 (1,199 yuan). This one comes in Agate Black and Peach Gold. Honor Magic Watch 2 can only be purchased in China for now, but it will be available globally from December 12.
This timepiece comes after the release of the Honor 9X and the Honor Band 5. Don’t forget that George Zhao, the Honor boss has already announced that in 2020 we’ll see more wearables than ever before from the company.
