We wrote the other day about a slew of Garmin Connect badges that are up for grabs in June. Well, it seems that a few of these have been introduced as part of a new feature.

It is called Connect Badge Challenges and the company has introduced it as a means of motivating you to exercise more. Unlike regular badges, you need to opt into these. Also, while most badges are linked to a one of activity or a single day, Badge Challenges are typically earned during a pre-set period.

For example, There’s a Fortnight 150K challenge that you can join right now. This one requires you to walk 150,000 steps between June 15th and 28th.

It has been shown that social connections and healthy competition result in an increase in activity levels. The Garmin Connect Badges tap into both of these. If you’re a fan of the regular badges, you will love the new challenges.

The functionality should already be in your app, as long as you’ve updated to the latest version. The procedure to join a challenge on Garmin Connect mobile is as follows:

  • Open up the app and click on the More tab (the one with three dots);
  • Select Challenges from the menu;
  • You’ll be shown a list of existing challenges along with the ones you are already participating in and the ones you have completed. Choose the challenge you would like to join by tapping on it;
  • Click on the “Join Challenge” button.
  • Follow the instructions on how to earn the badge.

The procedure for joining a challenge on Garmin Connect desktop is very similar.

Once you opt into an activity you’ll be able to follow your progress on leader boards. This will help to keep you motivated. It is also a good idea to keep checking each month to see what new challenges are available.
