The smartwatch was launched back in August 2019. The sports watch comes in two variants, and as you’d expect they are both full to the brim with latest tech.

Standard and Elite edition

In terms of design, Amazfit Stratos 3 comes with an always-on 1.34-inch full moon circular display that is made with 260,000 colours of JDI. One problem the current Stratos has is that screen visibility deteriorates at certain angles. Huami has invested over a million US dollars to solve this problem.

The watch measures 46.8mm in diameter and 13.4mm in thickness. Coming in at 59.6 grams (68.7 grams for the Elite edition), it has four physical buttons on the right side which allow you to control the various functionality. You can also use the touch screen for this purpose. The breathable straps are 22mm and the bezel is 316 L stainless steel.

In addition to the standard, there’s an Elite variant. This one comes equipped with high durability and water-repellent sapphire mirrors encased in a titanium alloy. It also upgrades the strap to smooth and durable fluorine Rubber.

Titanium seems to be all the rage these days. It is even rumoured the next Apple Watch will come with this option. The material is extremely tough but also very lightweight.

Internal specs and features

Under the hood, the watch comes with two sets of chips, one of which facilitates fitness the other smart functionality. This type of setup enables the user to run two separate modes, Ultra and Intelligent.

The more feature-packed of the two, Intelligent, uses 100% of the 1.2 Ghz processor and runs the full Amazfit OS. This provides users with the entire range of activity data, Bluetooth music playback and other smart functions.

The sacrifice is battery life – you get 14 days from the 300 mAh lithium ion battery between charges. Mind you, this is still excellent compared to other smartwatches. The other mode only provides basic fitness monitoring (80% of features) but with 21 days of battery life.

With GPS switched on this comes sharply down. Once again there are a few modes – Accurate (35 hours), Balance (45 hours) and Power Saving (70 hours).

In addition to this, it has been revealed Stratos 3 will be using the company’s BioTracker PPG biological tracking optical sensor for heart rate monitoring. This is said to be extremely accurate.

Other than that, the device comes with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo & Beidou, NFC and a Bluetooth Music function. Memory is 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage (of which 1.9 GB is for the user).

There are 8 Firstbeat features (such as Vo2Max, recovery times and others that are available on the previous edition), and support for 19 different sports modes. This includes indoor and outdoor running, walking, indoor and outdoor cycling, pool and outdoor swimming, elliptical machine, outdoor hiking, mountaineering, trail running, triathlon, compound sports, skiing, football, tennis, skipping, rowing machines and indoor fitness.

Huami says GPS accuracy has been improved with the integration of the Sony GNSS chip. You can combine the different positioning systems for more precise location monitoring.

Price and availability

Stratos is an excellent sports watch. We reviewed the original version in 2018 (which is pretty much the same as Stratos 2). This aesthethically-pleasing feature-packed device offers excellent value for money.
