Huawei Band 6 update adds touch screen wake & PIN code lock
A software update rolling out now brings a couple of new features to Huawei Band 6, along with some optimisations and the usual bug fixes. The update arrives both for the local market of China and internationally.
The first feature worth mentioning is a useful one. Huawei Band 6 has a large 1.47 inch AMOLED colour display which kind of blurs the line between fitness trackers and smartwatches. Well, now you can wake the massive display purely by touch.
The feature can be switched on or off in the settings and is an alternative way of getting the display up and running. This is in addition to the rase to wake feature and pressing the physical button. It is certainly an easier way of doing this than pressing a button.

The next function is meant to enhance security. More specifically, you can now set up a PIN code which can help if you lose your band or it gets stolen. The idea is to prevent an unauthorised person from accessing the content. Once again this is an optional feature that can be switched on our off, as per your preference.
Other than that, there are optimisations to system and Bluetooth stability. Huawei says it has also optimised the appearance of certain screens.
In the international market the update is going under firmware number 11.1.3.20. It is 9.63 megabytes in size, which is not all that much. You can check the current version installed on your device through the smartphone app. This is also the route to manually update your Huawei Band 6. The new software comes on top of the March refresh which didn’t really see much beyond the introduction of a mode to increase the maximum screen brightness.
