Huawei AOD watch

A closer look at Huawei’s upcoming AOD Watch

Huawei is all set to release a new smart timepiece, the AOD Watch. As its name indicates, this is a device with an always-on display.

Recently leaked screenshots from the Huawei Health app confirm the existence of this device. The AOD Watch carries echoes of Huawei’s renowned Watch 3 model, featuring a classic round dial and, what looks to be, a fully functional crown on the right.

The display is packed with a multitude of practical widgets – a calendar, steps counter, battery level indicator, timing, weather forecasts, heart rate monitor, alarm, and bedtime reminder. Although the bezels are present, they don’t intrude on the user experience.

It’s worth noting that some design elements could still be refined before the final product hits the market. Whenever that ends up being. But the images indicate that this will be a sleek looking device.

Always-on display

As mentioned, the AOD Watch’s headline feature is its always-on display (AOD). The concept of AOD, already popular in smartphones, allows users to view critical information such as time and notifications without needing to awaken the screen.

This feature has been integrated into previous models like the Watch 3/GT 3, but the AOD Watch is expected to take it a step further with dedicated and enhanced AOD functionality. The aim is to deliver optimal performance, keeping crucial information at the user’s fingertips without draining the battery.

Recent leaks have revealed smartwatch codes, including one dubbed “AOD-H1,” which is believed to be linked to the forthcoming Huawei AOD Watch. The device is expected to launch in tandem with the Huawei Mate 60 series.

A few devices in the pipeline

But that’s not all.

Just a couple of days ago, we broke the news on another Huawei timepiece in the pipeline. It is an SE version of Huawei Fit. The device has received regulatory approval from SIRIM, the approval body for the Malaysian market.

The letters “SE” stand for “Special Edition”, typically a budget variant of a device. Apple coined the phrase, and others have following. This device will be a part of Huawei’s Watch Fit series known for elongated display and robust features like fitness tracking, support for various sports, and impressive battery life.
