First Huawei Watch 4 update: Health Glance, Activity Rings & more
Huawei has just released the first firmware update for Watch 4, their timepiece that launched in Europe just a week ago.
Health Glance feature
The update, which is only 1.83MB in size, adds a slew of new features to the Watch 4’s already impressive capabilities. The introduction of the Health Glance feature is at the forefront of this software update.
This new feature allows users to measure ten health indicators in just 60 seconds, including basic, cardiovascular, and respiratory health. Users will receive a comprehensive report with an in-depth analysis of the results once the process is completed. This feature adds to the Watch 4’s existing health monitoring capabilities, which include respiratory checkups, ECG analysis, and health glance trends.
Activity rings
Taking a page from Apple’s playbook, Huawei continues to prioritise wellness in this update with the addition of new activity rings. These rings show three different indexes: Move, Exercise, and Stand.
Achieving your daily goals in all three categories will help you live a healthier life. This is a feature that complements the watch’s existing over one hundred workout modes perfectly. The addition of the Golf Course mode to the Workout app expands users’ fitness options even further.
Display customisation options & more
The update also adds new display customisation options to the watch. Users can now enjoy customizable service widgets as well as the addition of the Dynamic Weather and Multi-Function watch faces. These join the innovative planet watch faces, which adjust based on crown rotation and time of day.

The HarmonyOS 3.1.0.138 update also improves the Workout app’s user experience in certain scenarios and optimises the Planet Quest watch face, which automatically switches to a different planet or satellite at midnight each day.
The update introduces the eSIM Standalone Number feature, which emphasises the Watch 4’s standalone capabilities even more. Users can apply for their own eSIM card, which will allow them to make and receive calls directly from their wrist. This is in addition to the watch’s current eSIM support and independent LTE 4G communication capabilities.
To top it all off, the update adds support for Alipay payment in select countries. This gives users another convenient way to conduct transactions.
How to install
Installing the firmware update on your Huawei Watch 4 is a simple procedure.
- Begin by connecting your watch to your smartphone and ensuring that both devices have stable internet connections.
- Navigate to the ‘Devices’ section of the Huawei Health app on your smartphone. Choose your Huawei Watch 4 from the list.
- Navigate to the ‘Firmware Update’ section after selecting it. If an update is available, a ‘Update’ button will appear. When you tap this, the download will begin.
It’s critical to keep the watch connected during this process and to make sure it has enough battery power to finish the update. When the download is complete, the update will be installed automatically, and your Huawei Watch 4 will reboot. After restarting your computer, you can begin exploring and enjoying the new features.
