Amazfit Pop 3R & 3S: Why India is Zepp Health’s new battleground

Zepp Health has just launched the Amazfit Pop 3R in India. It comes hot on the heels of the Amazfit Pop 3S, another product that was exclusively unveiled in that country just a few weeks prior. The launch of these two devices marks a step in the company’s strategic expansion.

The Amazfit Pop 3R is a smaller alternative to the Pop 3S. It comes equipped with a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, housed in a 45 mm case. The smartwatch is available in two styles, both featuring simple yet elegant designs. The Pop 3R is built with a 2.5D glass cover and boasts a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, along with two functional steel buttons.

Despite its compact size, the Pop 3R is packed with features. It includes over 100 sports modes, a SpO2 sensor, continuous heart rate monitoring, and sleep tracking. Beyond that you get a digital microphone and speaker, AI voice assistant and more.

Amazfit advises against wearing the smartwatch during swimming activities. The device’s IP rating ensures water resistance only up to a depth of approximately 1 metre for a duration exceeding 30 minutes. But you are good to run with it in the rain or take a shower.

We have already written in detail about the Pop 3R’s sibling, the Pop 3S. It is known for its colossal 1.96-inch AMOLED display. Both watches offer up to 12 days of battery life. This is combined with over 100 watch faces, and the ability to create custom backgrounds using personal photos.

However, it’s worth noting that the Pop 3R lacks a GPS module, a feature present in the Pop 3S. So you’ll need to rely on your smartphone for satellite connectivity during exercise. No doubt, this was done to keep the price down.

A shift in strategic focus

The launch of these two products in India is a clear indication of Zepp Health’s focus on the that market where smartwatch manufacturers such as boAt and Fire-Boltt currently dominate. This strategic move is likely attributed to the vast potential of India’s wearable tech market, which has seen a surge in demand in recent years. Recent data shows. that major players like Apple and Samsung have experienced a decline in their market shares. This has created an opportunity for other brands to step in and fill the gap, particularly in less developed markets.

In addition to the Pop 3R and 3S, Zepp Health is also preparing to unveil another product, the Zepp Clarity Pixie headphones. We don’t know much about them apart from the recent FCC registration which doesn’t really provide very much info. Zepp Health is a seasoned player in the earphone market, having previously launched products such as the Amazfit Powerbuds Pro and Amazfit ZenBuds. These earphones, known for their unique features, underscore the company’s commitment to promoting health and wellbeing.

The Amazfit Pop 3R is set to go on sale in India from June 29th, with a silicone strap variant priced at INR 3,499 ( around US$43) and a metal strap variant at INR 3,999 ( around US$49). As of now, Zepp Health has not commented on the availability of the Pop series smartwatches outside of India.
