Mark March 20th in your calendar folks. This is likely when the Polar Grit X2 Pro will be released into the wild.
Polar had sent a thrill through the adventure community a week or so ago, with a social media teaser hinting at the imminent release of a new rugged outdoor watch. The official details are still under wraps, but speculation and leaks suggest it’s the next iteration in the popular Grit X series, reportedly the Polar Grit X2 Pro.
Now, the company has started sending out emails to those that have subscribed that there will be some sort of product announcement on Wednesday. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s about to drop.
Here’s the single teaser image.
A look back at the Grit X Series
The Grit X series launched in April 2020. It quickly established itself as a favourite among outdoor lovers. The original watch was praised for its durability, long battery life, and innovative features. This includes Hill Splitter, FuelWise, and detailed route planning with Komoot. These features were coupled with Polar’s advanced coaching abilities, underscoring the watch’s utility beyond mere durability.

Following in its footsteps, the Polar Grit X Pro, released in October 2021, further elevated the experience. While maintaining the essence of its predecessor, it introduced a number of enhancements. Amongst these is Sapphire glass for added screen durability, a built-in compass, and improved satellite system support with Galileo & QZSS. Despite these additions, it retained the iconic long battery life.
Both the Grit X and Grit X Pro have been lauded for their ability to withstand the harshest elements. This makes them ideal for activities like hiking, mountain biking, and trail running.
The next chapter: What to expect from the new Grit X2 Pro
Polar has yet to officially reveal the name of the upcoming watch. But leaks suggest it will probably be called Grit X2 Pro. We speculated that they might opt for a different naming convention. Grit X Ultimate, Grit X Trail, or Grit X Rough spring to mind as possibilities. But that doesn’t look like it will be the case. Regardless of the final moniker, one thing is certain: the new iteration is bound to generate excitement among outdoor athletes.
Based on the typical release cadence of the Grit X series, the new model was anticipated in 2023. However, the delay in its arrival has fueled speculation that Polar might be incorporating significant new features or advancements.
Here are some potential features that could be included in the new Grit X2 Pro. We posted a more detailed piece on this a couple of months ago.
- Improved touchscreen and display: Anticipated upgrades aim for a more responsive touchscreen and better visibility in diverse lighting conditions, addressing current user feedback.
- Diverse size options: Introducing various sizes to accommodate all users, improving comfort and wearability.
- Enhanced material and design: Expected refinements in strap material and button design for improved aesthetics and functionality.
- Advanced features: Speculations suggest ANT+ support for wider sensor compatibility, onboard music storage for phone-free workouts, NFC payments for convenience, and optimized battery life for extended use.
- Innovative technology: There’s buzz about the potential adoption of WearOS, offering access to a broader app ecosystem and enhanced smart features.
It’s important to remember that these are just speculations, and the actual features of the new Grit X may differ. However, considering Polar’s history of innovation and the positive reception of the previous Grit X models, there’s good reason to believe that the upcoming watch will be a worthy successor.
The wait is almost over
Polar’s latest additions to the wearable technology landscape include the Vantage V3, released in October 2023. Prior to that, we have the Ignite 3, unveiled in November 2022.
