Fitbit Ace LTE Update: New features for the new school year
As the summer break nears to an end, Google has announced an update to the Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatch, aimed at helping kids stay active and develop healthy habits as they head back to the classroom.
To remind, the device was launched a few months ago, the only new device unveiled by Fitbit so far this year. The smartwatch is designed specifically for children, offering parents peace of mind while encouraging young ones to stay physically engaged. With the latest update, the device is introducing new features that focus on teaching money management skills, promoting physical activity, and fostering family connections.
What’s new: the detail
One of the key additions is the ability to link a child’s Greenlight or GoHenry debit card to their Ace LTE, allowing them to tap-to-pay for purchases using Google Pay. This feature is designed to help kids learn responsible spending and gain confidence in managing their own finances. Its about teaching children the value of money and the importance of making informed spending decisions.

To further support healthy lifestyles, Fitbit has partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a leading children’s health organization, to deliver evidence-based content for the Ace LTE’s Daily Quests. These challenges and tasks are aimed at motivating movement and establishing lifelong healthy habits.
Additionally, the update introduces new games on the Fitbit Arcade, such as Sproutlings and Spirit Garden, which transform the user’s daily activity into engaging, interactive playtime. These games are designed to encourage physical activity and promote mindfulness and emotional well-being.
Finally, to help parents manage their children’s device usage during school hours, the Ace LTE now offers a school time setting. This includes the option to set a dedicated lunch break for kids to use their watch during recess. This feature is particularly valuable in the age of increased screen time and digital distractions. It allows parents to ensure their children stay focused on their studies while still providing them with the opportunity to stay active and connected during breaks.
The Fitbit Ace LTE update is well timed – as families prepare for the new school year. As always, this is a rolling update. So it may take time to reach everyone.
Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see whether Fitbit releases any new hardware in the coming weeks. In recent years, without fail, it had something new to show around this time. In early September IFA in Berlin takes place. This is the largest Europe tech conference. We will be there, hopefully taking pics and videos of one or two new Fitbit devices.
