New certifications reveal Huawei Watch GT 5 Ultimate

Recent certifications have revealed Huawei’s plans to expand its Watch GT 5 series. Alongside the expected GT 5 and GT 5 Pro models, a new variant has appeared: the Watch GT 5 Ultimate.

The Ultimate model, identified by the model number WDS-B19, was spotted in Indonesian SDPPI certification listings. This suggests Huawei is introducing a premium offering to its GT line, potentially positioning it as the top-tier option in the series.

Details about the GT 5 Ultimate are limited. But it’s worth noting the specifications of Huawei’s previous Ultimate model for context. The current Huawei Watch Ultimate features a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED screen and is constructed with durable materials including an amorphous zirconium-based alloy, ceramics, and sapphire crystal. It offers water resistance up to 100 meters. There’s an expedition mode, 24/7 health management including ECG functionality, and a battery life of up to 14 days.

As for the entire GT 5 series, including the standard and Pro models, earlier certifications have provided some initial information. The devices are expected to carry an IP68 rating and come in two sizes, following the pattern set by the GT 4. So not really that much information to go on.

Potential release date

The timing of these certifications suggests a potential release in the near future. IFA in Berlin, beginning on September 6th, could serve as a great platform for Huawei to showcase the new series. The company has confirmed it will attend Europe’s largest tech gathering. This timing would align with Huawei’s typical release schedule for watches. It positions the devices well for the holiday shopping season.

The Watch GT 4, released in September 2023, was praised for its design, lightweight operating system, and impressive two-week battery life. It came in seven designs across two sizes, starting at €250. The GT 5 series is likely to build upon these strengths while potentially addressing areas for improvement such as app availability and sensor technology.

As we approach September, more information about the Watch GT 5 series, including the new Ultimate model, may come to light. Huawei has yet to make any official announcements regarding the devices or their release date.
