Potential Garmin Fenix 8 Pro & MicroLED editions spotted
A surprising turn of events – Garmin may have plans to expand its Fenix 8 lineup with two new editions: a Pro and MicroLED version of the same. This news comes just days after the initial release of the Fenix 8.
It’s important to note that this information stems from an unverified source and should be treated with caution. After all, the screenshots could have easily been Photoshoped.
The leak looks to have originated from a page showing users which devices they can add to their Garmin Connect account. Without official confirmation from Garmin, which will not come, the accuracy of this information remains uncertain.
Potential new models
According to this info, the Fenix 8 Pro may be available in 47mm and 51mm sizes, mirroring the dimensions of the current Fenix 8 Solar model with MIP (Memory-in-Pixel) display. Notably absent is a 43mm option.
The mention of a Fenix 8 MicroLED edition is particularly intriguing, as it suggests Garmin may be exploring advanced display technology for its high-end smartwatches.
MicroLED technology
MicroLED technology has been gaining traction in recent years, with companies like Apple exploring its potential for wearables. While Apple has reportedly abandoned its plans for a microLED Apple Watch, the technology’s promise remains.
MicroLED displays offer several advantages over traditional OLED displays, including brighter colors, higher contrast ratios, and lower power consumption. These characteristics make them great for devices like smartwatches, where battery life is a critical factor.
Our takeaway
The challenges faced by a tech giant like Apple in bringing MicroLED to market underscore the complexity of this technology. While there are clear benefits, there are also manufacturing challenges. If Garmin can overcome these obstacles, a microLED Fenix 8 may land in the near future. But, like with Apple, its possible that these plans may change or be abandoned altogether.

One question that arises is on the cost of such devices. The current Fenix 8 range starts at a whopping $1,000 for the base model. And that’s for devices that are marred by a string of early glitches which still need to be ironed out via software updates. Pro and/or micro LED iterations of the same would surely bump this price tag up even higher! Yikes! Start saving now…
