How to download and install maps on Amazfit T-Rex 3
Amazfit T-Rex was released a few days ago. I have been testing the device out since its release and in this article I will walk you through the steps to download and install maps for offline use.
The watch is one of the most high-spec gadgets in the Amazfit series. One of its highlights is a snazzy 1.5 inch AMOLED display which has a capacity for 2,000 nits of brightness. The display also has a special Glove Mode, a useful feature if you are skiing or are in otherwise cold conditions and need to interact with the device.

Another highlight of the watch are the offline maps. These are made all the more useful due to the excellent display. Your position on the map updates in real time as you navigate with a matching route file.
Watches with this ability include Falcon, T-Rex Ultra, Cheetah, Cheetah Pro and Balance. And now we can add T-Rex 3 to this list.
So how exactly do you use maps on the T-Rex 3?
Downloading & installing maps on the Amazfit T-Rex 3
To begin with, you need to select an offline map in the Zepp App and upload it to your watch.
The steps to do this are as follows:
- Fire up the Zepp Health app and navigate to the Profile tab, there choose Amazfit T-Rex 3
- Scroll down on that page until you see Map Management
- That page will default to the 32.5 x 22.14km area you are currently in, but you can also use the search box above to locate the map for any region
- Decide whether you want a Base Map, Ski Map, Contour map – or any combination of these
- Click on the Add to Device Download List
As long as you’ve already set up the WiFi connection on the Amazfit T-Rex 3, the watch will automatically ask whether you want to download the map. If you have not, you need to do this. Simply go to settings on the watch, choose Connection Management and select your WiFi connection from the available list. Make sure to have the smartphone app open at the same time as this is what you will use to enter your WiFi password.
When T-Rex 3 starts downloading the map, it will usually take at least 5 minutes to finish. Then another minute to unpack the file. After that, you should be set.
How to use offline maps on Amazfit T-Rex 3
You can open up the maps manually. This is done by going into the all apps section on your Amazfit watch and selecting maps. A map will open with the area that you are currently in. Your position will be shown live as indicated by a little arrow. The watch uses the GPS satellite to locate you.
An alternative to using maps is to activate them while doing a workout, such as running or hiking. Start the workout as you normally would, and then scroll down until you see maps. Activate them via the physical button on the right.
A few things to note.
You can zoom in or zoom out of the maps by selecting a + or – sign. You interact with these by tapping the buttons on the left of the watch.
A long press of the top right button takes you to the map settings page. There you can toggle between light and dar modes, or choose an auto-option that will do this for you. The dark map is more legible at night, the white in bright outdoor conditions.
To exit the maps section, simply tap the Back button on your watch.
