Xiaomi Watch 2 users welcome Wear OS 4 update

Xiaomi Watch 2 users are in for a treat as reports have surfaced about the rollout of the Wear OS 4 update. However, it’s worth noting that the software is being distributed gradually. Users in most regions are still waiting for their turn.

More and more watches are being upgraded to Wear OS 4. Just a few days ago we covered the news of Mobvoi’s update for the TicWatch Pro 5 series. Now we can add Xiaomi Watch 2 to the list of devices capable of running this version of Google’s operating system.

The news of the update first broke on Reddit and Facebook, where early recipients shared their experiences. As of now, Xiaomi has not made an official announcement regarding the rollout. This leaves some uncertainty about its scope and timeline.

While the update brings the latest version of Google’s wearable operating system to the Xiaomi Watch 2, users have reported that the user interface remains largely unchanged. This suggests that the improvements may be more under-the-hood than immediately visible. Interestingly, some have noticed that Pixel watch faces are no longer compatible following the update. Which may disappoint those who enjoyed these custom designs.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 was unveiled at MWC Barcelona in February 2024. The Watch 2, priced at €200, features an aluminum body, a 1.43″ AMOLED display, and runs on the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset. It offers comprehensive health monitoring capabilities. This includes heart rate and SpO2 tracking, as well as multi-satellite connectivity for accurate location services.

Strangely enough, the Watch 2 Pro was launched a few months earlier in September 2023. It provides a more premium option with a stainless steel body and the addition of a rotating crown for improved navigation. It’s available in Bluetooth and LTE versions, priced slightly higher than the standard model.

As the Wear OS 4 update continues to roll out, Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro users are hopeful that their devices will also receive the new software soon. So far there have been no reports of this.

For now, Xiaomi Watch 2 users are advised to keep an eye out for the update notification. Patience is your friend, as it may take some time to reach all regions. As always, it’s recommended to ensure your device is charged and connected to a stable Wi-Fi network when dealing with major software updates. This one will take a while to download and install.
