Smart Alarm & heart rate personalization arrive on Ultrahuman Ring Air
Ultrahuman is bringing big updates to the Ring Air, including a Smart Alarm, personalized heart rate zones, and a festive scavenger hunt to keep things fun and healthy. All of these are expected to arrive during the holiday season.
The smart alarm powerplug
The long-awaited Smart Alarm feature arrives in the form of a PowerPlug, offering a more intuitive way to wake up. Unlike traditional alarms, it syncs with your sleep cycles to gently rouse you during light sleep phases. This approach is backed by research in sleep and music science, ensuring you wake feeling refreshed and ready for the day.
We are not sure how exactly this will work. Presumably the smartphone app will need to be open as the ring doesn’t house any vibration sensors.
Another PowerPlug is expected to see the light of day providing insights into “jetlag without travel.” This is a phenomenon where irregular sleep schedules create daytime drowsiness. So it has nothing to do with actual jetlag. More to do with social jetlag.
The feature highlights how even subtle variations in weekday and weekend sleep patterns can significantly affect energy levels. With these insights, users will be able to identify and address habits that disrupt their sleep cycles. Interesting – certainly something we have not seen before on a wearable device.
Holiday health challenges and personalized heart rate zones
To celebrate the season, Ultrahuman will be unveiling a festive scavenger hunt. Participants can earn badges by meeting goals centered around sleep, recovery, and movement, blending holiday fun with a commitment to wellness. Sure, have some holiday fun. But not at the expense of your health.
Another key update is the ability to personalize heart rate zones. While Ultrahuman uses the Heart Rate Reserve Method, users will soon be able to adjust these zones based on their preferences and unique needs. This flexibility resolves debates over heart rate zoning methods and ensures a more tailored fitness tracking experience.
Now if the company could just sort out the heart rate sensor so that it is accurate during high intensity exercise… But that’s typical of most smart rings.
Firmware 7.80 series and future updates
Ultrahuman says, Firmware 7.80 series sets a milestone for its flagship smart ring, incorporating edge machine learning technology. By processing data locally rather than relying on cloud networks, the device achieves more accurate heart rate and heart rate variability tracking. This not only improves data reliability but also boosts user privacy. At least that’s the promise.
Beyond these, there are some more updates in the pipeline. A new “Competition in Zones” feature will allow users to challenge themselves and others, adding a gamified element to the whole experience. A redesigned notification center will provide greater control over alerts. Other improvements will include updates to calorie accuracy, cardio age calculations that incorporate pulse wave velocity measurements, and enhancements to recovery, sleep, and movement indices.
We reviewed Ultrahuman Ring Air recently and found it to be amongst the leaders as far as smart ring offerings. One thing that distinquishes this device is the wide variety of insights it offers in its smartphone app. And lots of updates. The company is obviously planning to continue in this fashion into 2025!
