Could this smart ring track blood pressure better than cuffs?

Sky Labs’ CART BP smart ring is aiming to shake up the way we monitor blood pressure. By ditching the traditional cuffs and needles, it promises to do all the work from your finger—day and night, without getting in the way of your life. You can’t purchase it just yet, but soon you will be able to.

What’s the deal with CART BP?

Smart rings track all sorts of things but this one is a bit different. It’s a device that claims it can track your blood pressure as accurately as the tools doctors use. That includes the cuff-and-stethoscope setup you’re used to seeing at clinics and the 24-hour monitors that require a bulky cuff strapped to your arm all day.

The ring does its thing by using tiny PPG sensors. These sensors shine light into your finger to measure how blood flows under your skin. The data is sent to a cloud system, where smart algorithms crunch the numbers to give you blood pressure readings, all without any extra hassle.

CART BP

Best of all, the device monitors your blood pressure around the clock, even while you’re sleeping. And unlike the usual methods, it doesn’t get in your way. No awkward squeezing, no hospital visits—just pop it on and go about your day.

Sky Labs didn’t stop at making big claims—they went all out to prove it works. The CART BP was put through rigorous tests at Seoul National University Hospital. They even followed the latest European Society of Hypertension (ESH) guidelines, which set the bar high for cuffless blood pressure devices.

These studies, published in respected medical journals, showed that the ring held its own against the traditional methods. It nailed tricky tests like tracking blood pressure while awake and asleep, which is no small feat.

Why it’s a big deal

This ring could make life easier for a lot of people. For starters, you don’t have to deal with bulky equipment or frequent doctor visits. It connects to your phone, so you can check your blood pressure anytime, anywhere.

It’s also great for catching things like white coat hypertension (when your blood pressure spikes at the doctor’s office) or masked hypertension (when it’s normal at the clinic but high elsewhere). Plus, it tracks your blood pressure while you sleep, which helps spot conditions like nocturnal hypertension that often fly under the radar.

Doctors might appreciate it, too. The 24-hour data gives them a clearer picture of your overall heart health, instead of just one-off readings.

What’s next for CART BP?

Sky Labs’ CEO, Jack Lee, is confident this ring can take on traditional blood pressure monitors. He points out how inconvenient those old-school methods can be and believes CART BP has proven it’s up to the task.

The company is currently seeking approvals from the US FDA and Europe’s CE to make the ring widely available. If they pull it off, this could be the first smart ring with the capability to accurately track blood pressure. Sure, there are some other names in play – one of which is Muse Ring. But they are yet to deliver on their promises.

Keep an eye on this space. CART BP might not replace your clinic visits just yet, but it’s definitely one to watch if you’re tired of cuffs and needles. The device is already on sale in Korea and has been recognised by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in that country as a reimbursable medical device for hospital prescriptions.
