Your Whoop battery pack might need a firmware update
Most people don’t realise their Whoop Battery Pack 4.0 can have its firmware updated. This essential process can resolve issues like unresponsiveness, charging problems, or malfunctioning lights, and even allows you to customise its settings.
While it’s easy to overlook, updating is actually a simple process. But you do need to do some preparation.
How to update your battery pack firmware
To begin, connect your battery pack directly to your computer’s USB port using the USB-C cable that came with your device. Avoid USB hubs as they may not work reliably. Download the Whoop Battery Pack Updater from the official site, ensuring your computer meets the minimum requirements: macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, or Windows 10 or later. Once the app is installed, connect your battery pack, and the updater will display its charge level and current firmware version.

If an update is available, select “Update Firmware” to start the installation. While the firmware is updating, do not disconnect your battery pack. You can monitor the progress and view release notes on the update’s features. After the process completes, confirm the update and unplug your battery pack.
Beyond firmware updates, the app allows you to adjust settings like charging mode and LED brightness. For instance, you can choose between automatic charging when the pack is slid into place or manual activation with a double-tap. You can also control how bright the LED indicator appears during charging.
If you run into errors during the update, close and reopen the app, unplug and reconnect the battery pack, and try again. On macOS, ensure proper permissions are granted in your system preferences if the app fails to launch.
Most Whoop users don’t know updating battery firmware is a thing
This process often goes unnoticed by many users, who assume the battery pack is just a static accessory. But like the Whoop strap itself, the battery pack benefits from occasional maintenance. Updated firmware helps maintain consistent charging, reduces the chance of performance glitches, and even extends the longevity of the device.
For anyone relying on Whoop to monitor their health and fitness, keeping the battery pack in peak condition is a no-brainer. Ignoring updates might not cause immediate problems, but over time, it can lead to frustrating issues like unreliable charging. With just a few minutes of effort, you can ensure your battery pack performs as expected—so don’t skip this small yet important step.
