Six things to know about RingConn Gen 2 Air vs Gen 2

RingConn has officially announced the Gen 2 Air, a slightly redesigned version of its second-generation smart ring. There seems to be a bit of confusion about RingConn Gen 2 vs Gen 2 Air and how the two devices differ. The changes are noticeable, but they are not massive. Here’s everything you need to know.

RingConn introduced its first-generation smart ring back in 2022, marking its entry into the wearable health tech market. Building on this foundation, the company launched the Gen 2 model in August 2024, improving features and boosting battery life. We’ve published hands-on reviews of both these devices. Continuing its innovation, RingConn is now releasing the Gen 2 Air on March 21, 2025, offering a more affordable option for users.

These are the main differences.

1. Material and build

The Gen 2 features a titanium build, known for its durability and premium feel. In contrast, the Gen 2 Air is constructed from titanium steel. This change in material contributes to a minor increase in weight, but negligible. The total weight is between 2 and 3 grams so you are not going to feel it on your finger.

2. Battery life

Battery performance differs between the two models. The Gen 2 offers up to 12 days of usage on a single charge, while the Gen 2 Air provides up to 10 days. This slight decrease in battery life for the Gen 2 Air is a trade-off accompanying its other design changes. So you get a bit less battery life – but again – it’s not a huge difference.

3. Charging accessories

Charging solutions also vary. The Gen 2 comes with a charging case capable of providing up to 20 full charges before needing a recharge itself, making it convenient for users on the go. On the other hand, the Gen 2 Air is equipped with a USB-C-powered charging dock, which may be more straightforward but lacks the portability of the charging case. So that is one important change to note. The charging solution is not as convenient on Gen 2 Air.

4. Sleep Apnea detection

Both rings monitor key health metrics such as resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and sleep patterns. However, the Gen 2 includes an advanced sleep apnea monitoring feature, capable of detecting potential sleep disturbances with an accuracy rate exceeding 90.7%. It seems this feature is absent in the Gen 2 Air, which may influence users prioritizing comprehensive sleep analysis. But you do get everything else.

5. Color options

Both models offer distinct color choices. The Gen 2 is available in Future Silver, Matte Black, Royal Gold, and Rose Gold. In contrast, the Gen 2 Air comes in Dune Gold and Galaxy Silver. Additionally, the Gen 2 Air offers seven different protective ring covers, allowing users to customize their ring’s appearance. The word is that you can use those same ring covers on the Gen 2 device.

6. Price point

Affordability is another differentiating factor. As noted in our hands-on review, the Gen 2 is priced at $299, reflecting its premium features and materials.

The Gen 2 Air, designed as a more budget-friendly option, is priced at $199. For those who act quickly, subscribing to RingConn’s email list before March 7th can secure a $30 discount on that price, applicable upon its release on March 21st. Find it on the RingConn website.

There’s also the first-generation smart ring. That one can be picked up for $169. Apparently a trade in offer is coming soon. So if you are holding on to that one, you will be able trade it in for a Gen 1 for Gen 2 or Gen 2 Air – and pay the price difference. So that should offer a bit of a saving.

So there you have it, folks. When it comes to RingConn Gen 2 vs Gen 2 Air, the former remains the flagship device. If advanced features like sleep apnea detection and a longer battery life are priorities, that’s the one to go for. However, if a more accessible price point is important, the Gen 2 Air offers a nice alternative.
