Whoop trial now ships with the 5.0 band
The Whoop trial package has just been refreshed. Instead of sending out the older 4.0, Whoop is now including its 5.0 tracker along with a basic charger, a Coreknit band and Peak membership access.
The previous approach may have been a way to shift through the remaining 4.0 inventory before focusing entirely on the 5.0. Now that the change has been made, trial users are getting the most current hardware right from the get-go. Granted, it’s not a huge difference – but it’s something to be aware of.
What the updated trial includes
The package is straightforward. You get a Whoop 5.0 tracker, the standard charger (so not the wireless model), a Coreknit strap (not the fancier Superknit) and the Peak tier membership. That means access to the full suite of basic Whoop features from the first day of use, including advanced recovery metrics, strain tracking and the newer Healthspan tool.
While the Superknit strap and wireless battery pack remain optional upgrades, the trial bundle still covers the essentials. It is a good starting point for anyone curious about the platform’s approach to health, recovery and fitness monitoring.
Of course, this doesn’t include ECG and blood pressure measurements. That continues to be reserved for the highest tier Whoop MG – and there’s no trial memberships for that. So that one, you’ll need to pursue at your own risk.
The thinking behind the switch
This move was probably to be expected. It likely marks the final phase of 4.0 stock, as there is little reason for the company to keep producing that model after several years on the market. Why would they?
The main differences between the 4.0 and 5.0 come down to battery life and a slightly refined design. Now that 4.0 users have access to the Healthspan feature, introduced only a few days ago, the practical gap between the two generations has become much smaller.
