There’ve been rumors of a Google Pixel Watch for some time now. It was widely expected to land in the autumn of last year but nothing materialized. Hopes have resurfaced this year with Google’s acquisition of Fossil smartwatch tech in January, clues spotted by code watchers and new job postings.
Now we have yet another indicator the watch may finally see the light of day. Citing unnamed sources, Nikkei’s article focuses mostly on a rumored launch of a cheaper Pixel 3 smartphone. But buried in the text is also a reference to the Pixel Watch.
“The company will also roll out an updated version of its signature smart speaker Google Home this year, as well as a new smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch, the person familiar with the plan said.”
It’s unclear when the Google branded timepiece will actually launch, but it could be around October. No doubt, the rumor mill to go into overdrive in the months ahead. We will, of course, keep you updated.
