The activity band has been selling really well in China since its launch earlier this month. In fact, its shipments totalled 1 million units in just 8 days. For comparison purposes, last year the company shifted a million units in the first 17 days of the launch. So this version is selling twice as quickly.

The sales figures should receive a further boost now that the tracker is available globally. You can pick it up in Amazon stores in several markets including the US, Canada and the UK. The tracker is pricier slightly higher than its predecessor but that was expected considering the upgrades.

These include a beautiful 0.95-inch AMOLED colour with 120 x 240 pixel resolution and 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass. This comes with up to 450 nits screen brightness which should make it visible in sunny conditions. The previous generation only had a B&W display.

The other important change is that Mi Band 4 has a better 6-axis high-precision sensor in addition to the heart rate sensor. This should allow for more accurate tracking of steps, distance, calories, sleep and more. You get 6 different sports modes to tap into, including treadmill, exercise, outdoor running, cycling, walking and swimming thanks to 5 ATM water-resistance.

You can also view call, text, and app notifications and there’s functionality for controlling smartphone music. Xiaomi sells an NFC iteration, as well, that comes with XiaoAI and voice control. However, this one is not available internationally yet.

The gizmo still comes packing awesome battery life. The 135mAh battery will keep the thing going up to 20 days after a full charge.

When it comes to budget fitness trackers, this is a solid piece of kit. We are yet to get our hands on the new device, but have thoroughly tested out its predecessor. Make no mistake, Mi Band 4 won’t challenge any serious running watch. But its a great option for the casual user or as an entry level device.
