Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 will be released on September 22nd. Huami has sent an invitation letter for the product launch with the theme “Beyond GT”.
We first reported on the upcoming watches in early August. They appeared, together with GTS 2 and Neo in the code of the Amazfit app. This did not reveal anything, apart from the name and the fact that it is coming.
Since then we saw the unveiling of Amazfit Neo. The sub $50 dollar device comes with a rather odd retro look that reminds a bit of the old Casio watches. It has a four-sided, 1.2 inch STN black and white display, similar in shape to what you’d find on Amazfit Ares.

Unlike the Neo which may be the beginning of a new line, both GTS 2 and GTR 2 are second generation devices. Pretty much the same in specs, the first is circular in shape the second rectangular. The watches come with lots of functionality baked in including built-in GPS.
The first of these has recently hit Bluetooth SIG, the regulatory body for the Bluetooth wireless technology. It’s quite likely GTR 2 will follow soon. No FCC filing, though, just yet.
We are expecting these to be iterative upgrades on the original timepieces. Huami’s invite hints the smart watches will be about “more than long battery life’.
There’s talk they might come with Alexa support which means they’ll have microphones. Other mention is of breakthroughs in music functions. This is confirmed by the fact that the invite is inspired by the 30 year old Beyond “Glory Years” record album.
Other possible additions include SpO2 as the recent Zepp-branded Amazfit watch has this. Upgrades in other health sensor technology are to be expected, too. In our reviews of the duo last year there were issues with GPS and heart rate during exercise. Let’s hope Huami improves on both.
You can actually see the new watches in all their glory on a teaser poster. They look similar to the previous generation, although a bit sleeker and thinner.
All will be revealed on September 22nd at 14:00 local time. There’s also talk of some sort of announcement today, resulting from a linkup with Tesla .
Huami has recently made available for pre-order on Amazon its Amazfit Band 5. Exactly the same in shape, size, battery life and most features as the Xiaomi Mi Band 5, it comes with a couple of additions in the form of Alexa support and blood oxygen monitoring.
