Huawei Band 7 is thinner & even more lightweight

The successor to Huawei Band 6 has landed today. Version 7 is available for pre-order now in China with shipping starting on May 5th. The new band packs an even thinner and more lightweight design than before.

Huawei Band 7 vs Band 6: what’s new and different?

Starting off with similarities – Band 7 has the same 1.47 inch AMOLED of its predecessor and sports the identical elongated design with curved display glass. There’s a single physical button on the right, and a silicone watch strap attached to a polymer fiber frame.

What has slightly changed are the dimensions. Huawei Band 7 measures 44.3 x 26 x 9.99 mm. This compares to the 43 x 25.4 x 11.45mm of Band 6 and 18 grams. Which makes the latest generation is slightly thinner. Huawei has also managed to shred some 2 grams, Band 7 weighs a mere 16 grams.

Of course, a new generation comes with new watch faces. You can see some of them below. Perhaps not to everyone’s liking, but the images do show the potential. There’s a big gallery of watch faces that you can tap into – it numbers over 7000 watch faces in total!

Other than that, not really that much has changed. You get the same three sensors (accelerometer, optical heart rate and gyro sensor), although these have been upgraded to the latest generation tech.

This has enabled the company to improve tracking systems for sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen and menstrual cycle detection. For example, the band can now keep a lookout for sleep disorders.

The number of workout modes has also been upped to 96. But don’t get too excited. We suspect that beyond the main 10 or 12 – the others will be fairly similar.

Battery life is unchanged. Users can expect the band to run a fortnight on a single charge. Which is pretty decent for a fitness band with such a large AMOLED display.

It looks doubtful there will be NFC support outside of China. But Chinese users will get WeChat Payment support, along with various transportation capabilities such as a card system for local buses.

Huawei Band 7: availability and price

Huawei has made Band 7 official today in China. It starts at 269 yuan for the standard variant which climbs a further 30 yuan for the NFC version. Pre-orders are open now with shipping beginning on May 5th. The choice is between Wild Green, Flame Red, Obsedian Black and Nebula Pink cases. Each comes with a matching strap. International availability should follow soon.

The company is still giving some love to owners of Band 6. Just a few days ago it released a firmware update which adds touch screen wake and pin code lock.
