The lower cost Huawei Watch GT 3 SE has everything apart from built-in GPS

Huawei has launched a budget edition of Watch GT 3 SE. It comes with the features available on the full edition, but without built-in GPS.

Oppo launched an SE version of their flagship smartwatch watch just a few days ago. Now it is Huawei’s turn to do the same. The moniker SE has been popularized by Apple. It denotes a lower cost version of a watch.

Huawei Watch GT 3 SE – no built-in GPS, but still offers plenty

Huawei Watch GT 3 was released in October 2021. And while that one comes in two size options, you only get a 46.4 mm case variant (11mm depth) with GT 3 SE.

It comes with a 1.43 inch AMOLED display that sports a decent 466 x 466 pixel resolution. These are specs that have been carried over from the large iteration of last year’s edition.

The button arrangement is also identical. So you get something with both a physical button and digital crown. The choice of straps is different, though. Now you get something that comes with a Graphite Black or Wilderness Green TPU fiber band. Without the starp, the watch weighst only 35.6 grams.

Like most watches these days, Watch GT 3 SE boasts 5 ATM water-resistance. That means it is good to be used both in and out of water.

Looking at the specs under the hood – we could only spot one important difference. You don’t get built-in sattelite connectivity on this edition, but you do get the other sensors, including heart rate and blood oxygen, an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and barometer.

The other fitness and sports tracking goodies are there as well. This includes inactivity and other reminders, over 100 exercise modes, along with customized recommendations to improve your performance – courtesy of Huawei TruSport.

Beyond sports tracking there’s some smart functionality thrown in. Examples of this include quick SMS replies, Bluetooth calling, smartphone music control and third-party apps download via AppGallery.

Battery life is quite decent thanks to the lightweight operating system. With normal use you can expect to get about two weeks between charges. This halves with heavy use.

Huawei Watch GT 3 SE will be available globally as indicated by the fact that it can already be purchased in Poland for around €170. Which means it undercuts the regular variant in price by around €50. Expect for it to start shipping from November 10th.

More Huawei watches in the pipeline

Another device that is expected soon is Watch GT Cyber. But that’s a different animal to Watch GT 3 SE. Due for an official reveal on November 2nd, it comes with a display that is removeable from the body. At least that is what the teaser image that was released by Huawei implies. It is interesting that Huawei quietly released GT 3 SE today, instead of announcing it on the 2nd.

Beyond that we are expecting Watch GT 4. But seeing that we just got a budget edition of the previous generation, that one is unlikely to land before the start of 2023.
