Amazfit Helio Ring drops price & subscription model

Zepp Health has announced a significant, permanent price drop for its Amazfit Helio smart ring. Also in the news are updates to the heart rate algorithm on Cheetah Pro and Balance, along with the launch of the new mobile app on October 14th.

Amazfit Helio Ring becomes more accessible

In a move that’s likely to please many users, the Amazfit Helio Ring is now officially subscription-free. This change means that both new and existing ring users will have access to all Zepp Aura and Zepp Fitness features at no additional cost, for the lifetime of the device. This update takes effect immediately, making the Helio Ring a more attractive option for those interested in tracking their health and fitness without ongoing fees.

Accompanying this change is a substantial price reduction. The Helio Ring, previously priced at $299, now retails for $199. Zepp Health mentions that this is a permanent reduction. This price drop, combined with the removal of subscription fees, positions the Helio Ring much more competitively in the smart ring market. It undercuts much of its competition in price now.

As noted in my hands-on review, the Helio Ring is as a promising contender in the smart ring space. Launched a few months ago, it has a comfortable and stylish design, coupled with accurate heart rate tracking during exercise. While there are some inconsistencies with the Recovery Score, the overall performance of the device is strong.

New smartphone app launching soon

Zepp Health is also preparing to launch version 9.0 of its mobile app on October 14th. Currently in beta testing for Balance users, the update promises a comprehensive redesign of the user interface.

New features include an exertion score, a health monitor section, and a food camera diary. All nice additions. The layout of the app actually now reminds a bit of the software for Whoop fitness tracker.

New Zepp app

The company has also announced improvements to its heart rate algorithm. This enhanced algorithm, previously available on the T-Rex 3 smartwatch, has now been implemented in both the Cheetah Pro and Balance models.

I must say that I did find the T-Rex 3 has impressive accuracy at tracking heart rate during exercise. The device also impresses with its rugged build, long battery life, and extensive array of fitness and health features, offering exceptional value for its price point. The large 1.5-inch AMOLED display provides excellent visibility, even in direct sunlight, while features like Glove Mode and offline maps enhance its appeal for outdoor adventurers. Despite its bulky appearance, the watch is surprisingly lightweight and comfortable for extended wear.
