Samsung watches move from Beta to stable Wear OS 5

Samsung has announced the conclusion of its One UI 6 Watch beta testing phase, paving the way for the stable release of Wear OS 5. The beta program, which initially launched this summer exclusively for Galaxy Watch 6 users, was later expanded to include previous Galaxy Watch models, broadening the testing base and user feedback pool.

Beta participants across the Galaxy Watch lineup will automatically transition to the version for wide public distribution, marking the end of the testing period. The final release effectively converts the most recent beta build into the official public version, ensuring a smooth transition for those who helped test the software. The update preserves the features and improvements that users have been experimenting with during the beta phase, now optimized for stable performance.

Of course, those with the most recent iteration of the Galaxy Watch have already been using wear OS 5. Series 7 came running that version out-of-the-box.

When exactly the version to the older Galaxy Watch editions will start to roll out is unclear. Most likely it will start in the next few weeks to Watch 6, 5 and 4. It should be soon – as the software is now in the final release. It pretty much comes down to putting on the finishing touches – and renaming the last Beta to the official public version.

Let’s hope this rollout goes more smoothly than the one for older versions of the Google Pixel Watch. To remind, that one had to be paused because users were experiencing issues during the installation process. As someone who experienced the problems firsthand, with my Pixel Watch 2, I can attest that it wasn’t easy to get the timepiece working again. The company expects to resume that rollout by the end of the year.
