Amazfit T-Rex 3 gets tap-to-wake & ski mountaineering tracking

Zepp Health has released a new firmware refresh, dubbed version 3.3.6.1, for its rugged Amazfit T-Rex 3 smartwatch, introducing several features.

A particularly useful addition is the tap-to-wake feature, which provides a convenient method of screen activation. Users can simply tap the watch screen when it’s off, instantly illuminating the display – a function that proves especially useful during activities where manual interactions might be challenging. Hopefully, this long-awaited feature will arrive on other Amazfit models soon.

The new software also slaps on a dedicated workout mode for ski mountaineering. This allows alpine athletes to track their mountain adventures with greater precision.

For padel players, the watch now offers more detailed tracking, including precise swing count and differentiation between forehand and backhand movements. Runners will benefit from improved lap auto-segmentation accuracy, providing more granular performance data. The update also includes an optimized sleep tracking algorithm, promising more detailed rest analysis.

The full change-log can be seen in the screenshots below.

As always, this is a gradual rollout so you may need to exercise some patience until it reaches your region. Or you can try changing the region, that sometimes works.

When the new software is available, navigate to your Amazfit watch’s system settings. Make sure the device is charged and connected to Wi-Fi or paired with a smartphone. Check for system updates in the companion app or watch settings, and follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the firmware version 3.3.6.1.

To remind, we are in the midst of holiday sales. Lots of great discounts to be had on Amazfit watches, including the T-Rex 3. And don’t forget to check out my full review of the device. It is one of the best value-for-money rugged watches you can buy right now.
