Passcodes & Body Battery TrueUp highlight Garmin’s Q1 2025 update
Garmin is not wasting any time and is starting off 2025 with a solid round of updates. The Q1 software release introduces new features like passcodes, expanded strength workouts, and Body Battery TrueUp, alongside smaller enhancements.
Garmin steps up security with passcodes
One of the most interesting additions is the Passcode feature, bringing added security to newer Garmin devices. As originally reported by Techradar, This system locks the device with a PIN whenever it detects the watch has been removed from your wrist. Presumably, this will be a feature that you can decide whether to have on or off.
Now passcodes have been available for Garmin Pay for a while now. The difference is that this update protects all data on the watch, including contacts and health metrics. It’s a feature Apple Watch or Amazfit users may find familiar, but it’s a welcome layer of protection for Garmin’s lineup.
The initial rollout includes models like the fēnix 8 series, Enduro 3, a bunch of Forerunners, Venu 3 and Vivoactive 5. Strangely enough Fenix 7, Epix 2 and other high-end watches are not on this list. Go figure… Presumably they will get the update in Q2.

Body Battery TrueUp finally arrives
For users juggling multiple Garmin devices, the Body Battery TrueUp is a significant upgrade. The entire crop of recent devices is getting this.
This update allows Body Battery metrics, which gauge your energy levels based on factors like activity, sleep, and stress, to sync across all Garmin devices linked to the same account. Until now, Garmin’s Physio TrueUp system excluded Body Battery from its synchronized tracking. This enhancement ensures consistent monitoring of recovery time, sleep, training load, and now energy levels, no matter which device you’re using.
Other updates
Another useful addition is the integration of strength workouts into Garmin’s Run and Cycling Coach plans. This makes these plans more comprehensive, providing users with balanced training routines that include strength training alongside cardio sessions. The feature has already started rolling out in Beta to some devices.
Garmin has also worked on keyboard enhancements on the Fenix 8 and Enduro 3. Presumably to do with improving usability for tasks like entering passwords or text.
Another addition for high-end models is a feature called Workout Execution Scores. This is already available on the Fenix 8 series and Enduro 3. It involves more nuanced tracking and feedback for how well users adhere to planned workouts.
A well-rounded update for Garmin users
Garmin’s Q1 2025 planned software release is all about introducing small updates. The new Passcode feature addresses a gap in device security, while Body Battery TrueUp makes the multi-device experience smoother. Strength workout integration and small quality-of-life changes, like keyboard improvements, are also there. Although we must say, it is strange that owners of Fenix 7 and Epix 2 will need to wait a few months for certain features.
