New image hints at possible LTE version of Garmin Fenix 8

A screenshot has been shared with us showing a Fenix 8 device with LTE appearing as one of the connectivity options during the troubleshooting pairing process, sitting alongside Wi-Fi, Phone, and Sensor & Accessories. It is unclear if this points to a real LTE version coming soon, but it definitely raises questions.

Garmin has dabbled in LTE technology before, most notably with the Forerunner 945 LTE. That model focused mainly on emergency alerts and live tracking without needing a smartphone nearby. Plus, LTE connectivity appears on the Bounce Kids Smartwatch. If LTE is now heading to the Fenix line, it could mark a bigger move toward making these watches more standalone.

There are several possibilities to consider. Garmin might again restrict LTE to safety features, or it could offer broader support like on-watch music streaming or messaging. The Fenix range is built for outdoor use, so the appeal of leaving your phone behind while staying connected is clear.

Still, there is no guarantee that an LTE-enabled Fenix 8 will ever make it to market. So far, this image is the only vague reference to such a device. That said, a fully capable LTE Garmin watch feels inevitable. The only real question is when it will arrive.

What about the Fenix 8 Pro and MicroLED models?

This leak brings back memories of the Fenix 8 Pro and MicroLED editions that were spotted last September. Back then, screenshots suggested a 47mm and 51mm Fenix 8 Pro, and a MicroLED edition with upgraded display tech.

Nothing has been released yet. MicroLED is difficult to mass-produce, even for bigger companies. So it is possible Garmin ran into problems or changed its plans.

As usual with Garmin, not everything that leaks becomes reality. Some ideas get shelved or delayed, depending on technical issues or market timing.

LTE would not come cheap

If Garmin really does launch a Fenix 8 LTE, expect it to be expensive. The current Fenix 8 already starts around $1,000. A cellular model would add to the cost, and possibly bring subscription fees for the LTE service on top.

Whether there is enough demand for a standalone Fenix 8 remains to be seen. For now, all we have is one image and a lot of questions.
