Amazfit Balance 2 gets HYROX mode & dive features in first update
Zepp Health has pushed out the first firmware update for its Amazfit Balance 2 smartwatch. It comes about a week after the international launch of the device. The new software adds HYROX-specific training modes, along with a surprisingly advanced scuba diving mode.
HYROX training mode arrives
The company clearly knows the HYROX training format is growing fast. The new update brings structured support for these types of activities, including Free Training, Timed Training and Templates.
Timed Training supports three formats: Tabata, AMRAP and EMOM. These are popular in functional fitness and CrossFit settings, but work just as well for anyone trying to structure high-intensity workouts. Each mode caters to different pacing goals. Tabata is based around intervals. AMRAP has you completing as many rounds as possible in a fixed time. EMOM pushes you to complete a task every minute, with rest squeezed in where you can.
Templates let you pre-build routines and come back to them, making things easier if you’re prepping for competition. The interface is simple and the goal is to cut down on prep friction. You focus on reps and pacing.

Leisure scuba diving mode goes deep
The other important feature in this update is support for leisure scuba diving. Not just swim tracking with a dive skin. This is full single-cylinder, non-decompression diving, down to 45 meters.
The implementation is more than skin deep. The Balance 2 uses the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression model. That’s the same one found in real dive computers. Add in gas toxicity tracking and full decompression strategy support and you’re getting a serious tool for underwater activity.
It auto-records sessions and uses body and environmental perception to refine alerts. The device even supports EAN (enriched air nitrox) mixes up to 40 percent O2. That opens it up to a wide range of casual divers, not just those on basic air.
Other upgrades and system polish
A few smaller improvements round out the update. There’s now a built-in safety light that activates during nighttime activities. The topography map now supports full navigation setup directly on the watch. Focus indicators in app lists have been cleaned up visually to help reduce mis-taps or wandering swipes.
Map visuals during navigation are clearer and smoother. Speed tracking during workouts has also been tweaked for better responsiveness and fewer lag spikes. And there’s a fix for a bug involving Alipay and the secondary screen.
As mentioned, Balance 2 is now available for purchase internationally, following its China launch in May. We are also expecting an XT variant to land in the future. Reportedly, this one comes with a Titanium case.
