Suunto update brings running dynamics to Race 2 and Vertical 2
Suunto’s latest firmware brings extra detail to your running form. Version 2.48.16.26794 adds vertical oscillation and ground contact time to select models, along with a better morning report.
These changes continue Suunto’s recent push to offer more comprehensive recovery and performance metrics across its lineup. These tweaks should be noticeable to regular users.
New running data lands for Race 2 and Vertical 2
If you own a Suunto Race 2 or Vertical 2, this update adds new data to your post-run summaries. You’ll now see vertical oscillation and ground contact time right in the log summary. These two metrics help paint a clearer picture of your running efficiency and form.
Vertical oscillation is the bounce in your stride, while ground contact time shows how long your foot stays on the ground with each step. Both are useful for runners trying to fine-tune their cadence, especially for injury prevention or performance.
This update effectively gives Race 2 and Vertical 2 a data boost that brings them closer to what you’d expect from higher-end multisport watches. It’s also one of the few Suunto updates in recent memory to add running efficiency metrics in this way.
Morning report gets another refresh
The morning report has been revised again, and this time the improvement applies to more devices. Race S, Race, Vertical, and 9 Peak Pro are all included. Suunto hasn’t broken down exactly what changed, but it’s likely a UI polish or updated health summary layout.
This feature has slowly evolved into a broader dashboard, so even small tweaks can make it feel more useful. Whether it’s sleep insights, readiness scores or just a reminder to move, Suunto seems to be nudging it toward becoming a daily check-in point.
More practical improvements across the board
Two other additions show up across all supported devices. There’s a new treadmill calibration notification, which should help users who rely on indoor running to keep their watch accurate. And Suunto has added an “All apps” option to the widget list, streamlining access to apps from the watch face.
On the maintenance side, this version fixes two persistent issues. One is a bug affecting button lock, which had been a minor nuisance for some. The other is a fix for battery drain. It’s not clear which specific condition caused it, but users had flagged it in recent firmware threads.
