The Garmin Forerunner 745 might come with LTE, high-res images

Pics leaked on the internet show the upcoming Garmin Forerunner 745 might come in a LTE variant. An official unveiling is expected in the coming days.

If you’ve been impatiently looking to upgrade your Forerunner 735XT, the wait might soon be over. A new version of the timepiece is just around the corner. Pics leaked on the internet show a smart looking timepiece that adopts the tried and tested look of recent devices in the Forerunner range.

So far there have not been many leaks on the Forerunner 745 apart from a major one. Images that show up on Google Search reveal the timepiece in all its glory. Some info can be deduced from this on specs. These new images follow from pics discovered a few days ago.

This shows the Forerunner 745 will come with a 7 day Training Load and 4 week Load Focus. Both of these are Firstbeat (now under Garmin’s wing) metrics that were introduced with the launch of the Forerunner 945 and recent Fenix range. Nothing too exciting so far.

Something more interesting can be deduced, however, by looking closely at the high-res images. You can notice a line with bars. Anyone with a smartphone will recognise this as an indicator of LTE signal strength.

Might Forerunner 745 come in a LTE variant? Not entirely out of the question. All we are going here are these images so it will be a surprise if this happens. Courtesy of a previous leak, we were expecting the upcoming Forerunner 955 to have an LTE option but not the 745. The bars could, instead, indicate WiFi strength.

To remind, Garmin already has a watch with LTE. This lofty title is reserved for the rather ackwardly named Vivoactive 3 Music (Verizon). Its functionality comes with support for phone-free safety features and music downloads. You are not able to make phone calls, but sending and receiving texts is supported. All of this, of course, requires a monthly Verizon service plan.

Garmin typically unveils a bunch of watches at IFA in Berlin. However this was a more low key affair in 2020 due to the coronavirus. It has now ended but we are expecting an announcement soon on the Forerunner 745.

Other Garmin-made devices that could launch in the coming days are the above mentioned Forerunner 955 ( and 955 LTE) and HRM Pro chest strap with Bluetooth support. Further possibilities include the Venu 2 and/or Descent MK2.

Well spotted. It could be LTE, but it could also be the strength of the WiFI or GPS signal. We’ll find out soon enough!

It could also be showing the GPS signal strength, something previous watches I think did show.
