Amazfit Cheetah: Advanced GPS & AI coaching unleashed
Leveraging cutting-edge GPS technology and AI coaching, the Amazfit Cheetah series marks the brand’s inaugural foray into dedicated running smartwatches.
Just a few days ago, Zepp Health hinted at an upcoming running-related announcement. Today, they delivered on that promise.
Their latest creation comes in the form of the Cheetah series smartwatches. This new series surpasses all previous efforts by the company in the realm of running watches, positioning it as a worthy successor to the Amazfit Stratos watch.
Amazfit Cheetah: Next level GPS tracking technology
For starters, Zepp Health says it has upped its dual-band satellite technology. The duo is equipped with advanced GPS which should enable precise tracking of running routes and distance. This feature is particularly important for urban environment runners, as obtaining a good satellite signal can be tricky in those circumstances.

Zepp Health says MaxTrack is their new positioning system that captures nearly 100% of satellite signals, compared to the 50% captured by regular smartwatch antennas. This technology, which uses aircraft-grade components, minimizes multi-path interference from environmental elements such as tall buildings or trees.
As with some of its predecessors in the Amazfit line, the Cheetah series supports six satellite systems. It uses both L1 and L5 satellite signals for precise dual-band positioning. Additionally, users can import a route files and color offline maps from the Zepp App for real-time navigation and improved directional awareness during their runs.
It will be interesting to see how the new satellite tech holds up in practice. We’ve had positive experiences with GPS tracking on the GTR 4 as noted in our hands-on review.

Amazfit Cheetah: AI coaching & advanced performance metrics
Next up is AI coaching. It comes baked into the Cheetah series via the AI-powered Zepp Coach. This is a feature that generates personalized running plans for various race types, adjusting them weekly based on the user’s performance and condition. Think of it as a personal trainer.
In select regions, users can also access the Zepp Coach AI Chat feature in the Zepp App for a demo period before it becomes a subscription-based service. This feature uses generative AI and a large language model (LLM) to interact with users, answering their sports-related questions in natural language.
The company is really treading on new ground with its AI coaching. No other brand has stepped into this space. At least not to the same extent.

Beyond that, runners will be happy to know the line comes with some advanced performance metrics. They look very much like Firstbeat metrics that can be found on Garmin watches. This includes VO2Max, Real-Time Performance, Recovery Time, Training Effect and Training Load.
