Fresh off its launch just a few days ago, the Polar Grit X2 Pro upgrades its predecessor in several key areas. It boasts a premium build with a sapphire crystal display for enhanced durability. Gone is the previous display; the X2 Pro features a vibrant AMOLED screen. Furthermore, it comes equipped with a suite of advanced new sensors, including an ECG sensor for heart rhythm monitoring, a blood oxygen sensor, and a skin temperature sensor. Athletes will also appreciate the addition of offline map storage. Plus, battery life has seen a boost.
In many ways, the Grit X2 Pro is a more rugged version of the Vantage V3. The two devices offer the same suite of sensors, the main difference is in build.
Having said that, there is currently some functionality that cannot be found on the V3. But an upcoming firmware update will soon fix that.
Changes coming to the V3 via a firmware update
Your Vantage V3 is receiving a significant upgrade on April 3rd. These new features will improve your navigation and performance tracking:

For starters, Planned Routes will provide turn-by-turn guidance along predetermined paths, while Breadcrumbs will drop geotagged markers allowing you to easily retrace your steps on any map. This combination enhances navigation and exploration, giving you greater confidence to venture into new areas. The features are great for exploring new trails while staying on track and minimising the risk of getting lost.
VAM (Vertical Ascent Meter) calculates your average ascent speed in meters or feet per hour, both over a 30-second window and since the beginning of a lap. This is particularly valuable for runners and cyclists who train on hilly terrain. It helps you monitor improvement over time.

Vertical Speed is also coming. The feature provides real-time measurement of your uphill or downhill pace in meters or feet per minute. This metrics helps you analyse your performance on climbs and descents.

Finally, 3D Speed calculates your true speed by factoring in both horizontal and vertical movement. It is great for highly technical trails with extreme elevation changes. For most casual use cases, 3D Speed’s difference from regular speed might seem minimal. It’s most beneficial in mountainous environments.
