Garmin’s Q3 update spree begins for high-end Forerunners
Garmin has released firmware update 20.15 for their popular Forerunner series, including the 955, 965, 255, 265, and 165 models. This early version of the software marks the beginning of the current quarter’s updates for these devices. As a beta release, users need to be part of the Garmin Beta programme and manually initiate the download.
To install the update, users can navigate to Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates on their device.
Only a few additions
There is nothing really groundbreaking in this update but you will get several features and improvements. One of the most notable additions is Garmin Share, which allows users to share workouts, courses, and waypoints between compatible Garmin devices.
According to the change-log, another addition is the Device Settings Backup and Restore function. This makes it easier for users to transfer preferences when upgrading or replacing a device.
Swim lovers will appreciate the enhancements to pool swim workouts. These include pace alerts and critical swim speed support. The pool swim rest screen and alert tones have also been refined. The update also improves pool size selection in Garmin Connect real-time settings.
Runners, on the other hand, will benefit from improved race time predictions. And we all know how inaccurate these can be! The algorithm now takes into account the user’s current fitness level and recent efforts, which should hopefully help in providing more accurate estimates.
Next up, the update integrates the Garmin Run Coach feature into the Garmin Connect app. This should help to offers users more seamless access to personalized training plans.
As you’d expect, the firmware update addresses several issues and bugs. The lock screen vibration during sleep mode has been fixed, and map data field text truncation has been resolved. Edge case weather data display errors have been corrected, and calendar display issues have been addressed. Finally, the new software resolves alert suppression during breathwork activity.
