Suunto launches Titanium version of the Race S in China

Suunto has expanded its popular Race S line with the release of the Suunto Race S Titanium today, just a day before Garmin’s reported launch of the Fenix 8 series and Enduro 3. For now the device has only been announced for the Chinese region.

The original Suunto Race S, launched in June 2024, is a compact and lightweight version of the larger Suunto Race watch. It features a bright display that provides excellent visibility in both daylight and nighttime conditions. In terms of specs, that device pretty much matches the larger Suunto Race variant that saw the light of day in late 2023. That watch has a Titanium variant and now Suunto S is getting the same.

Features

The key difference here is the use of lightweight yet durable titanium for the case material. The device weighs a mere 34 grams. This should make the watch even more comfortable to wear during extended training sessions or competitions, as the reduced weight can help minimize fatigue and enhance the overall user experience.

Suunto Race S Titanium

Many were hoping that the Suunto Race S Titanium would feature a sapphire glass display, rather than the standard mineral glass used in the original model. Sapphire is known for its superior scratch resistance, which could be a valuable upgrade for athletes who put their watches through the rigours of their sport. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Also, Suunto has decided not to boost the water resistance of the Titanium version, so has kept it at 50m. To remind, its big brother has a 100m water-resistance rating.

Suunto Race S Titanium

Overall, the Suunto Race S Titanium appears to be a refined and enhanced version of the already impressive Suunto Race S. In China the device retails for 3599 Yuan, which translates into $500, around $100 more than the vanilla variant.

The timing of the release is just a day before Garmin’s anticipated unveiling of the Fenix 8 series and Enduro 3. So it should be an exciting few days, particularly considering IFA starts in early September.
