First leaked images of Huawei Watch GT 5
Huawei is preparing to launch Watch GT 5 on September 19th. Following a slew of certifications in recent months and an official video teaser on Weibo, we now have what are reportedly the first images of the device.
The pics come courtesy of SpillSomeBeans. They show the timepiece two sizes — 41mm and 46mm. What’s immediately noticeable is that both sizes mostly retain the design from last year. The 41mm version will have a 1.32-inch AMOLED display and the 46mm model a 1.43-inch one.
The watches pack a metal bezel, a stainless steel body, and 5 ATM water resistance. A rotating crown can be seen along with a secondary programmable button underneath. Their battery life is expected to last up to 7 and 14 days, respectively.
The smaller iteration will be available in a choice between two colours – Jana Blue and Jana Gold. It seems the large version will only be available in Black.
All of this jives with the regulatory info from a trio of important certification databases. These include the Indonesian SDPPI (that’s a mouthful – it stands for Sertifikasi Alat dan Perangkat Telekomunikasi Indonesia) and TUV. Think of these as essential pit stops on the road to release. SDPPI makes sure telecom devices play nice in Indonesia, while TUV gives the thumbs up for safety and quality. Additionally, there’s also a 3C certification – as shown in the image gallery below.
From the certifications, we know the Watch GT 5 goes by the model number “VLI-B19”. There’s a mention of two variants: “VLI-B19” and “VLI-B29”. So two different sizes, just like with the GT 4. Unfortunately, the regulatory certifications don’t give us any other info about the specs.
Huawei Watch GT 5: Video teaser
And then there’s the official video teaser.
This reveals that users can expect familiar functionalities such as heart rate monitoring and blood oxygen (SpO2) measurement, alongside enhanced sleep tracking and menstrual cycle monitoring. Powered by a brand new TruSense sensor, the Watch GT 5 also appears to include a mood-tracking application and advanced running metrics.
One standout feature is the watch’s sophisticated approach to calorie management. Going beyond simple activity tracking, the GT 5 is set to offer a comprehensive calorie balance system. This tool will, reportedly, consider not only calories burned but also factor in caloric intake. Which means users will get a real-time snapshot of their daily energy balance. How, exactly, it calculates caloric intake remains unclear.
At the heart of the Watch GT 5’s health monitoring capabilities lies the “Health Glance” feature. This delivers a holistic health assessment in just 60 seconds, measuring ten distinct health metrics. Beyond standard vitals like heart rate and ECG, Health Glance aims to alert users to potential issues that traditionally require more invasive testing. These include lung function abnormalities, elevated infection risks, sleep apnea, and even indicators of hyperglycemia.
Room for improvement
The GT 4, which hit the shelves in September 2023, was a pretty impressive piece of kit. Probably Huawei’s best looking smartwatch to date. It comes in seven stylish designs across two sizes and starts at €250. Physically, the Watch GT 5 maintains the sleek design language of its predecessor. It features a digital crown and an additional button on the right side.

With its lightweight operating system, tracking features and, marathon two-week battery life the GT 4 was a hit with exercise lovers. Think of it more as a fitness watch than a smartwatch. However, the timepiece was held back by limited app options and the absence of NFC support.
Not too long to go now. Mark September 19th in your calendar folks, when we will lean all the remaining details about the GT 5 range.
