Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 users begin receiving WearOS 5 update
Samsung has begun rolling out the much-anticipated WearOS 5 update for Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro users.
Following its release to Galaxy Watch 6 users a few weeks ago, the update is now reaching older models in regions like the UK, Vietnam, and Italy. While many users report improved performance and smoother navigation, the reception has been mixed, with some pointing out bugs and limited noticeable changes.
(Mostly) positive reception
The overall reaction is positive. For many users, the update has delivered improved performance. Some describe their devices as noticeably smoother, with quicker navigation and better responsiveness. However, not everyone is thrilled. For example, one concern has been the removal of the activity icon on the watch face, an inconvenience for those who rely on quick access to fitness features.
The rollout has yet to reach all regions and models. Users with LTE variants in countries like the US and India are still waiting, which has led to some frustration. Samsung’s staggered approach to releasing the update appears to have created disparity in user experiences, though broader availability is expected soon.

Battery life remains a key point of interest. Samsung claimed significant improvements with WearOS 5, but users are still putting this to the test. Early feedback has been cautious, with some noticing minor gains, while others await more dramatic results.
The update also expands functionality, improving app compatibility and addressing earlier software issues. Notably, the integration of GBoard with apps like Google Keep now works as expected, which is a welcome fix for users who rely on productivity tools.
Interestingly, while some users appreciate the smoother experience, others express disappointment at what they perceive as a lack of transformative changes. A handful have noted on Reddit they might not have noticed the update at all without being prompted!
Availability remains a hot topic. Not just for Galaxy Watch 5 range users, but also for those holding on to their Galaxy Watch 4 devices. At some stage they will also receive this update, but it is still unclear exactly when.
