Rotating crown, ECG, and LTE tipped for OnePlus Watch 3
A new leak has revealed additional info on what we can expect from the OnePlus Watch 3. The device is expected to launch globally in the first quarter of 2025. While it carries forward the familiar design of its predecessor, several new features promise to make it stand out.
Earlier this month, the OnePlus Watch 3 appeared in FCC filings under the model number OPWWE251. The documents revealed that the smartwatch maintains a circular design, measuring 47.6 x 46.6 x 11.75 mm, making it slightly thinner than its predecessor. A bigger battery and better connectivity options were also unveiled. Now we have some more concrete info. Albeit, it comes from an unofficial source – so take it with a pinch of salt.
A familiar design with subtle changes
As revealed by SmartPrix, the OnePlus Watch 3 sticks closely to the sleek circular design of its predecessor. It will apparently be available in two color options.
As can be seen in the render below, a key new addition is the rotating crown. This tactile feature will allow users to scroll through menus with precision, complementing the touchscreen interface. To remind, the OnePlus Watch 2 has a rotating button, but it doesn’t do anything in Wear OS.
In terms of sensor technology, the Watch 3 will feature an enhanced heart rate sensor suite, now including ECG tracking. However, the latter will only be available in certain regions – depending on local regulations.
OnePlus is reportedly working on LTE functionality for the Watch 3. If implemented, this would allow users to make calls and receive notifications without a connected smartphone. However, just like ECG, LTE support may be limited to select regions such as China. This is based on how similar features have been rolled out by OPPO in the past.
The OnePlus Watch 3 is set to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. This upgraded hardware promises smoother performance and quicker response times.
Battery life also sees a boost, with the inclusion of a 500mAh+ battery. The watch will run on a combination of Watch OS 5 and RTOS, designed to balance power efficiency and performance.
Looking ahead to the launch
With its global launch expected in Q1 2025, the OnePlus Watch 3 is shaping up to be a strong addition to the company’s lineup. While OnePlus has focused much of its attention on the OnePlus 13 smartphone series, these leaks suggest significant effort has gone into refining its smartwatch.
The OnePlus Watch 2, dropped at MWC 2024, cleaned up the original’s issues with a slick stainless steel design, sharp AMOLED screen, and up to 100 hours of battery. Then came the cheaper 2R, with an aluminum build and simpler style. Both did the basics like heart rate and SpO2 but skipped fancy stuff like LTE and ECG.
