Garmin expands ECG access to Australian and EU users

Garmin has officially launched its ECG App in Australia and the European Union, bringing advanced heart rhythm monitoring to users in these regions. This update ensures that users can now access the feature without resorting to complex workarounds.

No need for workarounds anymore

Until now, Garmin smartwatch users in Australia and the EU didn’t have access to the feature. But, as always, though, there were workarounds.

One had to rely on unofficial methods like VPNs or location spoofing to activate the functionality. This step were not only tedious but often unreliable. With this new rollout, the ECG App is now officially supported, offering a smoother and more secure experience. Users in these regions can now simply install the app and start monitoring their heart health without extra hassle.

Compatible Garmin watches and how to measure ECG

The ECG feature is available on a growing range of Garmin models. This includes those in the Venu, Fenix and Epix range. You can view the full list on Garmin’s website. For now the EU ECG feature is only coming to the Fenix 8, Venu 3 and Enduro 3. Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro and other watches with the Elevate Gen 5 sensor still can’t use the ECG app in Europe.

Taking an ECG reading is straightforward. Open the ECG App on your smartwatch while wearing it snugly above the wrist bone. Sit comfortably, resting your arm on a table, and place two fingers on the metal bezel of the watch face. Stay still for 30 seconds while the app records your heart rhythm. The results will display immediately on the watch and sync with the Garmin Connect app for detailed history and reporting. You can even share these reports directly with your healthcare provider.

New regions join the ECG-enabled list

Before this launch, the ECG App was only supported in a handful of regions, including the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, among others. The lack of other locations is to do with not having the necessary regulatory approvals. But obviously, to the delight of Garmin watches in Australia and the EU, these have now been obtained from authorities in those locations.
