Milerd EcoTracker aims to bring food & water safety to your pocket

The EcoTracker by Milerd might not be the kind of wearable tech we usually talk about here, but it’s too intriguing not to cover. This pocket-sized gadget checks food and water safety in seconds, making it a handy tool for anyone who cares about what they’re eating and drinking. At least that’s the promise.
Unlike the fitness trackers and smartwatches we typically write about, this device doesn’t count steps or monitor your heart rate. Instead, it scans your fruits, veggies, fish, and meat for harmful substances like nitrates and pesticides. It also measures water quality, looking at Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and pH levels. With its pre-calibrated settings for over 60 foods, it’s ready to go right out of the box.

According to the company, the EcoTracker is very simple to use. You get two sensor strips in the box, one for measuring PH the other for NO3 and TDS. Depending on what you want to measure, simply slide the sensor into the main unit and it is ready to take measurements. Results show up on a touchscreen in about three seconds.

Battery life is about a week with typical use which sounds pretty decent. The thing is also small enough to toss in your bag, so you can check food while shopping or keep an eye on water quality when traveling. Given how many health problems can be linked to nitrates and pesticides—think digestive issues, thyroid troubles, and worse—it’s nice to have a quick way to spot potential red flags.
Late Spring release date
The EcoTracker has just hit Kickstarter. You can snag the basic package for just $49 instead of the retail price of $149, or go for the upgraded version with an extra sensor for $79 instead of $199. The link to the campaign can be found below.

Milerd, the company behind the EcoTracker, says that it is not new to this game. They’ve been making eco-safety gadgets and medical equipment for over a decade, with their products now sold in more than 20 countries.
Of course, there’s always a risk when supporting products which are still in development. And we all know that crowdfunding campaigns don’t always go as planned. Delays or changes can happen. Sometimes, backers are left empty handed.
Nevertheless, the EcoTracker could be worth a look. If it delivers on its promises this will be something that gives you more control over what goes into your body.
