Withings U-Scan toilet health device takes step toward US release
Withings’ innovative urine analysis device, the U-Scan Reader, was officially approved by the FCC on March 27, 2025 (ID XNAWPA02). Availability of the device has been extremely limited so far. This approval potentially paves the way for its future availability in the U.S. market.
A toilet-based device with lab-style testing
Originally announced back in 2023, the U-Scan is built to live inside your toilet bowl. From there it quietly runs chemical analyses on urine without the need for any extra steps from the user.
The system has two main parts: a sensor-equipped reader and a replaceable cartridge. It detects urine, determines who is using it through a radar-based system called Stream ID, and then initiates a chemical reaction. Data is sent wirelessly to the Withings Health Mate app for review.
Two types of cartridges are available. One is geared toward menstrual cycle tracking and hormone analysis, while the other focuses on nutritional health, measuring things like vitamin C levels, ketones, pH, and hydration. Each cartridge includes enough tests to last around three months. The device also self-cleans with every flush, designed to blend into everyday routines without maintenance or hassle.

What FCC approval actually means
The FCC’s role is to regulate the radio technologies used by consumer electronics. For U-Scan, that means testing and approving the way it communicates wirelessly, including through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. With this approval, the French-based outfit now has clearance to sell the device in the U.S. from a wireless compliance standpoint.

But that’s only part of the puzzle. While FCC approval is essential, it doesn’t automatically trigger a product launch. It simply means the device meets U.S. standards for safe and legal wireless communication. Based on current public information, there’s still no confirmed date for when U-Scan will actually hit store shelves in the U.S.
Still waiting for a proper rollout
For now U-Scan is, pretty much, only available in Europe. In the U.S., the FCC approval does raise the possibility that a release is getting closer.
You can check for availability in your region on the Withings website. If you live in the US you can add your name on the website to be notified when U-Scan becomes available for purchase.
